THE WAY OF THE EARTH
I am exploring a very old (2500 years old), almost forgotten technique called Terra Sigillata (a preparation of very fine clay particles).
By making a slip with very fine particles of clay, this enables me to obtain surfaces with a satin finish, which are shiny, soft and waterproof.
The large number of firing options and the infinite variety of natural clays lend a richness of colour and tone, which come from the iron oxide within the clays.
I derive a great deal of pleasure from making bowls.
